Net Worth Update: October 2017

DISCLAIMER:  Hello.  This is a monthly net worth report.  I am currently using my banks website to track my net worth, along with personal capital.  I do not include the value of my house but do include the mortgage as a debt.  I do this because it is unlikely we will sell and I prefer liquidity to perceived value.  Sit back, grab a beverage and enjoy comparing yourself to my numbers.  You'll feel better about yourself, I promise:)

Hello again faithful readers.  Fall is in the air....at least for the moment.  Round' here the weather changes faster than a kid can barf up his (excessively eaten) candy corn at a football game <---- Yes I did do that once.

If that thought doesn't excite you, maybe my numbers will!

Net Worth: - $75,354

Difference from September 2017: + $7,197

Total Cash Available: $13,459

Total Investments: $54,429

Total Debts: $143,242

Side Note:  I started using round numbers for the main section of this report...looks a bit cleaner I think.

Account Breakdown

Checking: $1787.66 - This is the main checking account that we use to pay bills, get groceries, and live life.  It fluctuates month to month although I'd love to see it go up and up and up:)

Emergency Fund: $5255.04 - This is our main emergency fund.  It stands between us and life while keeping Murphy at bay.  Currently we are working to raise it up to at least 15k because we want more cushion.

Vehicle Replacement: $5,529.73 - A sinking fund we set up to offset the purchase of our next car...I know, I know, we hate cars as much as you do but we live remotely and cars are a part of our reality.

Home Improvement: $505.19 - Money set aside to pay for various home projects (paint, doors, concrete, mower blades, etc...).

Travel: $155.14 - We both love to travel and we need money to do it:)

Santa Saver: $155.07 - Saving for Christmas gifts, just started this year.

Random Checking: $31.40 - A couple of random accounts we have, this one is from a side business I ran and the others are just random savings accounts we must have to maintain our checking.
Random Savings 1: $5.00
Random Savings 2: $5.00

Wifes 401k: $34,655.56 - My wife started saving a little early and it has really grown.

My 403b: $19,773.80 - Still trying to catch my wife.  I started later and put in more but I still haven't caught her.

Mortgage: $143,242.35 - Our only debt which is just the way we like it.  We do hate the mortgage with a vengeance and are working to kill it.

Takeaways:

1. Last time I wrote about our need to improve our liquidity.  We decreased our retirement contributions to nothing and increased our savings rate.  So far we've put $1,100 bucks away and want to reach 15k by the end of this year.  We will then resume retirement and paying extra on the house.

2. Since the last report the old school house has worked together.  We have spent money of course, but it all has been by design and plan.

3.  Still waiting on the adoption game.  We have our name out there while we hope and pray for a child one day.  I'm hoping sooner rather than later because I can't imagine keeping up with a toddler while in my forties!!!

4.  Every day is a new day.  We made some more advancement towards our goal of posting a zero net worth and we made progress on paying off the house.  If you are going as slowly as we are remember the tortoise wins the race.

OSC out.
